The presentation of the Chinese edition of the Fundamentals of the Social Concept of the Russian Orthodox Church will take place in Moscow

On March 6, 2024, at 16:00, the Rudomino Library of Foreign Literature will host a presentation of the Chinese translation of the Fundamentals of the Social Concept of the Russian Orthodox Church. The event was organized by the Department for External Church Relations of the Moscow Patriarchate and the Chinese Patriarchal Compound in Moscow together with the Library of Foreign Literature.

The centuries-old good-neighborly relations between Russia and China, the similarity of their peoples' ideas about moral values and justice contribute to a deep study of the spiritual and cultural traditions of the two countries. The document "Fundamentals of the Social Concept of the Russian Orthodox Church" is a comprehensive concept expressing the modern Orthodox view on issues of church-state relations and public life in various fields such as science, culture, education, medicine, mass media, ecology and many others. In modern China, considerable attention is paid to these issues, so this document may be of interest to the Chinese reader.

The translation was carried out with the assistance of the Foundation for the Support of Christian Culture and Heritage. A group of Russian and Chinese translators worked on it for three years. This work is unique in its own way, as in the process of work special attention was paid to theological terms, many of which were translated into Chinese for the first time. At the presentation, the members of the translation group will talk about the translation methodology, their achievements, and the basic principles of creating Orthodox terminology.

The event will be attended by representatives of the Moscow Patriarchate's Department for External Church Relations, the Russian-Chinese Friendship Society, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, the Chinese Patriarchal Compound in Moscow, and the academic and educational community.
