The book "The Ukrainian Church Question" has been published, continuing a series of books on the topic of the Ukrainian schism. Its author, Metropolitan Seraphim of Piraeus– is one of the most authoritative hierarchs of the Greek Orthodox Church, an ardent defender of the interests of the Church, its purity of confession and the integrity of its canonical system.
The book contains articles written by Metropolitan Seraphim during 2018-2020 in response to events in the church life of Ukraine. These years were marked by the beginning of a crisis in inter-Orthodox relations, the cause of which was the invasion of the Patriarchate of Constantinople into the church life of Ukraine. The apogee of this illegal interference was the non-canonical provision by Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople of the "tomos of autocephaly" to a group of Ukrainian schismatics on January 6, 2019. In his publications, most of which are published in Russian for the first time, Metropolitan Seraphim gives an assessment of these tragic events for Ecumenical Orthodoxy.
In the preface to the book, Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, Chairman of the Moscow Patriarchate's Department for External Church Relations, emphasizes that "the Metropolitan of Piraeus unmistakably identifies the main nerve of the Ukrainian church issue, its deepest and most painful component. This is a violation of the correct balance of unity and conciliarity in the Church – "inaction and distortion of conciliarity."
The publication, prepared by the Publishing House "Cognition" in cooperation with the Foundation for the Support of Christian Culture and Heritage, is the second in a series of ten books devoted to international and inter-Orthodox relations. Among the authors of the nearest publications are Metropolitan Daniel of Vidin (Bulgarian Orthodox Church), Bishop Anthony of Moravica (Serbian Orthodox Church), Protopresbyter Anastasios Gotsopoulos (Greek Orthodox Church) and others.
