Representatives of the Foundation for the Support of Christian Culture and Heritage paid a working visit to Croatia

A delegation of the Foundation for the Support of Christian Culture and Heritage, headed by Executive Director Egor Skopenko, paid a working visit to the Republic of Croatia on December 24, 2021. The meeting with the active compatriots was organized by the Russian Embassy in the Republic of Croatia following a visit by representatives of the Fund to the objects of the Serbian Orthodox Church (SPC) on December 8-9, 2021.

One of the main topics of the meeting was the issue of carrying out restoration work in the Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker in Crikvenica in order to prevent the destruction of this memorial object, as well as further worship services with the participation of Russian-speaking believers living in Croatia. Following the discussion of this issue, it was decided to prepare a technical task for the restoration of the church, the priest's room and the building next to it (summer kitchen), while assessing the possibility of creating a museum in this building.

At the end of the meeting, the parties also discussed the issue of financing the restoration of fallen slabs in the Chapel of the Resurrection of Christ at the Mirogoj Cemetery in Zagreb.

Recall that on December 8, 2021, a delegation of the Foundation for the Support of Christian Culture and Heritage visited the Gorno-Karlovac Diocese of the Serbian Orthodox Church located in Croatia. As part of the trip, representatives of the Foundation visited the resort town of Crikvenica on the Adriatic coast, where they visited the church of St. Nicholas.

Help

The Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker was built in 1924 in Crikvenica by Russian emigrants, some of whom ended up in Croatia after the Civil War, with the help of the widow of an outstanding Russian diplomat, Ambassador of the Russian Empire in Belgrade Nikolai Hartwig (1857-1914).

Currently, the church is not functioning, because the building is in disrepair, frescoes, icons are damaged, the roof leaks.
